Privacy Policy
Last updated: 11 June 2026
Savvey is a UK price-comparison app run by Savvey Ltd. We are committed to protecting your privacy and complying with UK GDPR. This policy explains exactly what data passes through our systems, why, who else sees it, and what you can do about it.
What we collect
When you use Savvey, the following data is processed:
- Product searches — the text you type, photos you snap, barcodes you scan, or URLs you paste. We use these to identify the product and return price information. Tracking parameters (utm_*, gclid, fbclid, etc) are automatically stripped from URLs before processing.
- Anonymised usage analytics via our EU-hosted analytics service (cookieless — nothing is stored on your device for analytics) — events such as "search started," "result shown," "retailer link tapped," plus how long searches take. Search events may include the text of the search query so we can improve results; they are never linked to you as a person. No personal identifiers, no cross-app tracking.
- Local browser storage — recent searches, your preferences (e.g. swipe-hint dismissed, GDPR consent banner dismissed). This stays on your device. We never access it from our servers.
- Cached responses — for performance, we cache product identifications and price lookups by content hash for up to 48 hours in our key-value store. The cache key is a hash of your input; nothing in the cache is linked to you.
What we do not collect
- We do NOT collect names, email addresses, phone numbers, or any other personal identifiers.
- We do NOT have user accounts. There is no sign-up, login, or password.
- We do NOT collect financial information, payment details, or purchase history.
- We do NOT track your activity outside of Savvey.
- We do NOT sell, rent, or share your data with third parties for marketing.
- We do NOT retain photos you snap beyond what identification needs: for reverse-image product search a snapped photo is held in temporary storage for up to 5 minutes (so the image-search service can read it), then automatically deleted.
- We do NOT use your data to train AI models, and our AI providers do not retain content beyond the immediate request.
How we use your data
- Our AI systems: product searches and snapped photos are processed by our AI systems to identify the product. Our underlying AI providers act as data processors under data-processing agreements and do not retain content beyond the immediate request lifecycle, and never use it to train models.
- Retail data providers: live prices, retailer links and image-based product matching are fetched on your behalf from licensed retail and search data providers, who do not retain queries beyond their own short operational logging.
- Public product databases: for barcode scans we may look up the barcode number in public product databases to improve accuracy. No personal data is sent.
- Affiliate networks: when you click some retailer links, the click may be routed through an affiliate network for commission tracking. These networks may set first-party cookies on the destination retailer's domain (not on Savvey).
- Anonymous analytics (EU-hosted, cookieless) tell us which features users engage with so we can improve them. No PII, no cross-app tracking.
Safety filtering
To protect users and our service, Savvey includes a server-side filter that detects when a snapped image or query appears to be of something other than a product (for example, a person, a sensitive object, or content that doesn't fit the app's purpose). On a match, the app shows a friendly redirect message ("That doesn't look like a product. Try snapping the packaging") and discards the input without storing it. We log only the fact that a filter event occurred, not the content that triggered it.
Where your data is processed
Your data is processed in the UK, EU and US by our hosting, AI, retail-data, analytics and affiliate-network providers, acting as processors on our behalf. Transfers outside the UK/EU take place under appropriate safeguards (including the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses where applicable). Analytics are EU-hosted.
Retention
We retain:
- Cached responses: up to 48 hours, then automatically deleted by TTL.
- Anonymous analytics events: 12 months in our analytics service, then deleted.
- Server logs (technical errors only, no content): 30 days.
- Your photos: up to 5 minutes in temporary storage for reverse-image search, then deleted. Queries: not retained beyond the request lifecycle (other than the anonymous hashed cache above).
Your rights under UK GDPR
As a UK user, you have the right to:
- Access the data we hold about you
- Request rectification or deletion of your data
- Object to processing
- Restrict processing
- Data portability
- File a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk)
Because we don't collect personally identifying information and don't have user accounts, we typically have no data tied to you specifically. If you want to clear your local browser storage, append ?fresh=1 to the Savvey URL or use your browser's site-data controls.
Affiliate links + revenue
Savvey may earn a small commission when you buy via the Amazon UK link or other retailer links shown in the app (Currys, John Lewis, Argos, Boots, Tesco and others, routed via affiliate networks). This is how we keep the app free. The price you pay never changes — it's the same as if you'd typed the URL yourself. We disclose this clearly on every result screen.
AI use
Savvey uses our AI systems to identify products from photos and text and to provide UK retail context (typical price bands and popular alternatives). The AI's role is identification and context only. Every price you see on a result screen is verified live from a real retailer listing — no AI-generated prices are ever shown to users. AI can make mistakes — always verify product details on the retailer's page before purchasing. No images or queries are used to train any AI model.
Children
Savvey is not designed for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has used Savvey, contact us and we'll remove any traces.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be flagged in the app and at the top of this page.
